In 1989, I was a 15-year-old kid struggling with my weight, low confidence, and even lower self-esteem. Looking for a way to help me find my footing, my father and uncle suggested I try martial arts. I stepped into my first Shotokan Karate dojo, and my life changed overnight.
I didn't just find a sport; I found a purpose. I fell in love with the crispness of the techniques, the iron-clad discipline, and the quiet pride that comes from doing something truly meaningful.
The turning point came faster than anyone expected. On December 2nd, 1989, just months after starting, I entered my very first competition. I walked away with 1st Place and the Bob Reed Trophy. That moment proved to me that with the right discipline, I could rewrite my own story.
After several years of refining my foundation in Shotokan, I transitioned to Shukokai Karate. Competing at a high level became my way of life, as our club rose to become one of the top three in Great Britain. Today, I bring that same competitive edge and transformative discipline to every student I train.
After 12 years dedicated to Karate, life brought a change in pace. My work schedule meant I could no longer maintain my traditional Karate training, but the fire to compete hadn't faded. I needed something different—something full-contact, dynamic, and raw.
That’s when I found American Kickboxing.
The Transition
I didn't start from zero. Those 12 years on the mats had honed my agility, flexibility, and speed to a razor’s edge. However, stepping into the world of American Kickboxing was a fresh challenge. It was a more aggressive, high-energy environment that demanded everything I had.
Lightning Strikes Twice
History has a way of repeating itself for those who put in the work. After only a few months of specialized training, I entered my very first full-contact Kickboxing competition.
The walk to the ring was a whirlwind of emotions: nerves, fear, and pure adrenaline. But the moment I stepped through those ropes, the world went quiet. My focus narrowed to the opponent in front of me. Just as I had done on December 2nd, 1989, I climbed the podium once again,
1st place.
My progression in American Kickboxing wasn't just about the wins; it was an amazing journey fueled by an incredible instructor and a community that felt like family. Training was never a chore—it was a labor of love. Every session was an opportunity to push past my limits and refine the "Karate-rooted" speed that gave me my edge in the ring.
At MSK, we do things differently. I founded this club to focus on the student, not the spreadsheet. I believe martial arts should be accessible, honest, and transformative.
• No Contracts, No Pressure: We don’t believe in locking you into long-term financial commitments. At MSK, it is strictly Pay As You Train.
• No Hidden Costs: You won’t be pressured to buy expensive uniforms or pay monthly subscriptions. Your focus should be on the mats, not your bank account.
• Purpose Over Profit: My goal isn't to run a "business"—it’s to teach an art that works. Whether you are here for self-defense, fitness, or to find the confidence I found back in 1989, I am here to help you reach that goal.
What We Focus On:
• Authentic Self-Defense: Techniques that actually work when it matters most.
• Building Confidence: Overcoming the "low self-esteem" hurdles I once faced myself.
• Mental Fortitude: Developing the self-belief and discipline that carries over into your everyday life.
Why Choose MSK?
I know what it’s like to walk into a gym feeling like the underdog. I’ve been that 15-year-old kid. Today, my mission is to provide an environment where training is a passion, not a chore, and where every student can walk away with their head held high.
